Thank you for posting this Peggy. Now that dates are set, I'll send your post along to colleagues in other African countries with encouragement to attend. Ward and I led trainings in Working With Open Space Technology in both Nigeria and Ethiopia, and we had a leader from Ghana attend the same training at our home in North Carolina. These people are facilitating using what they learned. I have one story that was very special to us. Peter lived in northern Nigeria. Our training took place in Abuja. Peter used some train travel and did a lot of walking to get to Abuja. His tribe has chosen him to go to the training to learn on behalf of the tribe, and he was responsible for sharing what he learned once he got back. Resources were pooled to make this possible. I picture him doing all that travel, not easy, and the hope in his heart that he shared about the difference that he and others could make in northern Nigeria in their work of improving conditions, particularly for young girls and women...and the many issues being faced. As a tall thin person with strong warrior energy, when he arrived I felt a bit intimidated. it didn't help that when I met him he had just found out that he had been given the wrong start date of the workshop and it was day 2 of 4. He was so angry, disappointed, and expressive during morning news. When I found out later in that day that he was a strong advocate of women, especially against the practice of child brides, and put his life at risk regularly to fight for the rights of women, I felt chagrined. He, including his warrior energy, was needed for making the difference. I had no doubt he would be a great facilitator of OST meetings with just the right themes. I continue to be grateful to him for his work...and for staying in touch with me for well over a decade, giving me glimpses into his challenges and his work. I hope to convince him to attend WOSONOS. Funny, the very first place where I read the book, and then facilitated a full 2.5 day OST gathering was Brackenhurst in 2005!!!... maybe Nairobi is calling me back...
