passion is the use of OST within organizations so that every OST meeting in
the organization is a catalyst for what's next. If you have interest in

When I attended my first OST training with Harrison in the days that he
facilitated four day OST trainings, I was the senior leader of a
multi-service social and health service in an inner city. During this
training I started to imagine the potential of OST within an organization.
Intuitively I recognized that its use, while originally conceived as an
event, had profound potential when used regularly within an organization. I
can now look back with deep gratitude for the work I was privileged to do
with OST within organizations. I am particularly grateful for the
experiences that resulted in social impact.

I think this is such a wonderful opportunity for a deep dive in learning about Open Space Technology and how this method can be used in a holistic container for organizational development. I was happy to join your training maaany years ago and it warms my heart to know its available all over the world in this format. You/we are quite in the forefront in my view regarding facilitating online too – so that’s a very powerful combo!

Dear friends and colleagues,
I have a story that still touches my heart and it is funny. I carried out a
nine month consulting assignment to bring about organizational
transformation in a health center. About sixty staff. The leader, Heather,
and her Director of Operations, Jim, had engaged me after attending a half
day info experience with me. At the info session, they seemed the most
skeptical. Instead, they weren't skeptical but very discerning hence the
questions to me that seemed skeptical.
I met with the leadership team frequently to support their development in
leading the organization from a holistic perspective, including
participatory processes in which all voices would be heard. We worked
together on their leadership of leading in a way that all people in the
organization would engage in their own leadership. I loved working with
this team. Heather as accountable to a Board of Directors, was cautiously
optimistic about adopting this leadership style. Jim was for it realizing
its value even before he met me...he simply hadn't had the words or how to
for achieving this different leadership approach.
The staff team disliked the circle configuration for our meetings, disliked
both Open Space Technology and Whole Person Process Facilitation, and
really disliked that my presence represented change. Still, despite their
dislike, they participated, posting topics, taking their leadership. The
transformation was underway with frequent OST meetings interspersed with
Whole Person Process Facilitation meetings, the latter or which supported
moving OST meeting results into action.
At our second last meeting, when I went to sound the Tingsha to start the
meeting, and no sound was heard. Oh my! I looked at the Tingsha, turned
them over and discovered that cotton balls had been taped to the underside
to cancel the sound. The entire staff team was waiting for my response and
I was laughing. They laughed. And we proceeded with the meeting and
successful organizational transformation.
On the last day of the assignment, just before sounding the Tingsha, I
turned them over to look at the underside. No cotton balls. I rang them and
within seconds bells were ringing all around the circle. Everyone had
brought a bell and were ringing it to show me and each other that they got
it...they were taking their leadership, each and every one. Great
improvements happened. One is noteworthy. One of the OST topics was 'Just
Do It'. The topic leader had moved his topic into action for monthly
meetings to keep pursuing 'Just Do It'. When I was brought back in for a
follow up a year later, he said to me "I have been holding my meetings
every month on my topic, but no one ever comes. I sit there alone
contemplating 'Just Do It'. I wondered aloud how he felt about this
seemingly failed actionable item. He looked at me and said that it didn't
fail because everyone was deeply engaged out in the facility 'Just Doing
It' and getting it done. His job, as he saw it, was to maintain an energy
for 'Just Do It' and so he remained committed to those monthly meetings of
one for years.

During the past thirty three years of working with OST, my long held
passion is the use of OST within organizations so that every OST meeting in
the organization is a catalyst for what's next. If you have interest in

When I attended my first OST training with Harrison in the days that he
facilitated four day OST trainings, I was the senior leader of a
multi-service social and health service in an inner city. During this
training I started to imagine the potential of OST within an organization.
Intuitively I recognized that its use, while originally conceived as an
event, had profound potential when used regularly within an organization. I
can now look back with deep gratitude for the work I was privileged to do
with OST within organizations. I am particularly grateful for the
experiences that resulted in social impact.

I am just going into the second round of a full year process with an organisation with a hundred employees.
Again we have an ambitious plan including prep meetings, an all staff open space technology meeting, follow-up meetings, an introductory training teaching how to use the basics from whole Persson process facilitation in an online environment, for conveners of action plans, a couple of mentoring circles before the follow-up meeting six months after the open space.
Such a joy!

Dear friends and colleagues,
I have a story that still touches my heart and it is funny. I carried out a nine month consulting assignment to bring about organizational transformation in a health center. About sixty staff. The leader, Heather, and her Director of Operations, Jim, had engaged me after attending a half day info experience with me. At the info session, they seemed the most skeptical. Instead, they weren't skeptical but very discerning hence the questions to me that seemed skeptical.
I met with the leadership team frequently to support their development in leading the organization from a holistic perspective, including participatory processes in which all voices would be heard. We worked together on their leadership of leading in a way that all people in the organization would engage in their own leadership. I loved working with this team. Heather as accountable to a Board of Directors, was cautiously optimistic about adopting this leadership style. Jim was for it realizing its value even before he met me...he simply hadn't had the words or how to for achieving this different leadership approach.
The staff team disliked the circle configuration for our meetings, disliked both Open Space Technology and Whole Person Process Facilitation, and really disliked that my presence represented change. Still, despite their dislike, they participated, posting topics, taking their leadership. The transformation was underway with frequent OST meetings interspersed with Whole Person Process Facilitation meetings, the latter or which supported moving OST meeting results into action.
At our second last meeting, when I went to sound the Tingsha to start the meeting, and no sound was heard. Oh my! I looked at the Tingsha, turned them over and discovered that cotton balls had been taped to the underside to cancel the sound. The entire staff team was waiting for my response and I was laughing. They laughed. And we proceeded with the meeting and successful organizational transformation.
On the last day of the assignment, just before sounding the Tingsha, I turned them over to look at the underside. No cotton balls. I rang them and within seconds bells were ringing all around the circle. Everyone had brought a bell and were ringing it to show me and each other that they got it...they were taking their leadership, each and every one. Great improvements happened. One is noteworthy. One of the OST topics was 'Just Do It'. The topic leader had moved his topic into action for monthly meetings to keep pursuing 'Just Do It'. When I was brought back in for a follow up a year later, he said to me "I have been holding my meetings every month on my topic, but no one ever comes. I sit there alone contemplating 'Just Do It'. I wondered aloud how he felt about this seemingly failed actionable item. He looked at me and said that it didn't fail because everyone was deeply engaged out in the facility 'Just Doing It' and getting it done. His job, as he saw it, was to maintain an energy for 'Just Do It' and so he remained committed to those monthly meetings of one for years.

what a great brief outline of the steps you are taking to support the
people in an organization develop their capacity for making the most of an
OST meeting into the ongoing workings of an organization. You also support
the changing culture that encourages people in their leadership.
I appreciate that you work and teach the way we Work with OST the Genuine
Contact Way of what we create prior to an OST meeting, what we do after the
meeting, and how we support the organizational change that comes from
regular use of OST meetings in an organization. You create a more life
nourishing way of working, tapping into the leadership of everyone with
enough (but not too much) support in doing so.
Of course the facilitation of the OST is kept true to what we were taught
by Harrison.
Within this moment on the planet, it is good to know that there are many of
us working with one leader at a time, one organization at a time, step by
step, to bring about a more life nourishing future for the generations that
follow us. We instill hope as we infuse all work in Open Space with the
value that hope brings.

Dear friends and colleagues in Open Space,
During the past thirty three years of working with OST, my long held
passion is the use of OST within organizations so that every OST meeting in
the organization is a catalyst for what's next. If you have interest in
developing your OST work beyond a singular event, and into use with
regularity in an organization, an online learning opportunity

coming up in October, facilitated by myself and Rachel Bolton. Each of us
brings expertise of leading organizations that make regular use of OST
meetings as catalysts for 'What's Next' with its dance of divergence,
convergence and emergence.

When I attended my first OST training with Harrison in the days that he
facilitated four day OST trainings, I was the senior leader of a
multi-service social and health service in an inner city. During this
training I started to imagine the potential of OST within an organization.
Intuitively I recognized that its use, while originally conceived as an
event, had profound potential when used regularly within an organization. I
can now look back with deep gratitude for the work I was privileged to do
with OST within organizations. I am particularly grateful for the
experiences that resulted in social impact.
