Dear Open Space Lovers, Have you ever been engaged in supporting an organization in developing a strategic plan? Have you used Open Space Technology as one of your processes to support the overall process and help the organization gather the information they needed for the strategic plan as well as the engagement of people when creating the plan? I have done this many times, and I love the simplicity, ease, and buy-in experienced by the organizations. The process is rather quick, and the implementation often starts parallel to the construction of the plan. Researchers, including Norton and Kaplan at Harvard, have found that 70-90% of strategic plans fail to be implemented. While using Open Space Technology is one key ingredient that can help organizations be more successful in their implementation, it’s just one ingredient needed for a successful recipe. My way of doing strategic planning is based on the training Strategic Planning the Genuine Contact Way, I took for the first time in 2012.
