Dears open space lovers and friends,
three weeks ago at the end of a planning meeting with a new client and by
the end of the meeting the leader told me that I had facilitated an Open
Space with her 20 years ago! That was such a fun coincidence. It was her
first Open Space meeting. She told me how positively tripped up she and her
friends were by the Open Space principles and couldn't stop giggling
quoting them on their drive home. They laughed so hard that they nearly had
an accident. But even then they said “Whatever happens is the only thing
that could have” and kept laughing. She confirmed how life-changing the
Open Space principles have been for her ever since.
It was the second Open Space Technology meeting I facilitated in my life. I
was only twenty years old. Today I am still as hooked by the methodology as
back then. By now I have facilitated countless open space meetings and
learned a lot, especially about how to introduce Open Space in
organizations to enable a new culture of communication and collaboration
which is so needed in these pressure-cooker-silo-work times.
I am sharing this with you because I wish you can also benefit from

You three are a wonderful team of trainers, learning facilitators. I know
you to be so thoughtful about your preparation for every workshop that you
lead, and even with the careful preparation, you are agile, quick to adjust
your plans depending on what emerges by the unique group of participants
that show up.
I highly recommend this workshop in September in which you go way beyond
how to facilitate OST for a conference or a one time meeting. Instead, you
focus on the longer term impact and use of OST in an organization...the
shifting of a culture, of an agreed upon social contract of how work gets
done, to something different. As you say, a focus is on a culture that
includes collaboration as a norm.

As I have shared before I had the privilege to participate in and
facilitate Open Space Technology meetings for 20 years by now. 10 years
after my first encounter with OST and many OSTs later - I went to the US
and took the Genuine Contact Program, Train the Trainer. One of the Modules
was Working with Open Space Technology - the one we’re offering in
September.

First I thought I didn’t really need the training as I was already very
much a pro with OST. But during this advanced facilitation module I didn't
only learn how to facilitate an OST meeting and reflected its principles -
I learned to support my sponsors in a much more robust way than I had ever
learned before. Now I was equipped to apply holistic tools for planning and
follow-up work that enriched my practice. And I got introduced to the
concept of givens and why they are so important to be identified with a
sponsor beforehand to successfully build on the OST results.
The different Genuine Contact tools have enabled me to be more than an OST
facilitator. They transformed my work and I became a successful consultant,
who supports her clients to harvest the learnings from an OST meeting and
helps them to implement a culture of leadership and collaboration - also on
days when there is no OST.
Why am I sharing all of this with you? Because I want you to know that this
training is beneficial for beginners as well as seasoned consultants and
OST facilitators.

I have given the training “Working with Open Space Technology” in different constellations for more than 20 years now – several times every year! It is such a privilege and blessing to hold space for the deep learning that always happens. I also, every now and then hear back from past participants about the difference they make applying what they learnt. We make a difference in many many ways!
Working together with Doris and Anna Caroline is so rich as we each bring our unique experiences and perspectives, I always learn both from you and from all participants. I am quite amazed how the learning can continue, endlessly!
