A highly personal message… I posted it on the Open Space Technology
Facebook page this morning. My love affair for Open Space began in 2009. It
never abated and continues to grow.
Here on the OS listserv is where I found the courage to speak my heart. I
continue to speak and share.

Included here is:

  • a link in support of the invitation extended by the Open Space Institute
US and the host team organizing the QiqoChat virtual gathering on January
17-18th 2025 (for some depending on their timezone flowing into the 19th)

https://osius.org/peace-high-performance-2025

  • my heartfelt Facebook post on the tradition of this annual gathering
often held during the Martin Luther King holiday weekend. (See below)

  • a potpourri of memory photos from this special place where the three-day
Open Space was held at International House in New York City.

Facebook Post:
Alas, 2024 comes to a close. It feels like the bookend to an era. It’s the
year that Harrison Owen left us, the year that we celebrated him,
expressing our love and gratitude through shared stories and gatherings
honoring and remembering him.

In his Open Space talks, Harrison spoke often of grief and the stages of
death and dying that also signal new beginnings.

Truthfully, I feel a deep ache in my heart, missing him. I also feel the
poignant memories of this time of the year, preparing and anticipating the
3-day in-person annual gathering of Peace and High Performance at
International House
in New York City.

I miss the ritual of being there physically, joining others who reconnected
year after year. I also miss meeting the new Open Space colleagues who
joined for the first time, often from different parts of the world.

As I perused the many photos taken over more than a decade, I felt such
waves of emotion. Wishing with all my might that we could again climb those
well-worn marble steps at International House — to be together in Open
Space in those familiar rooms on the top floor.

For more than two decades, Harrison and Karen Davis hosted this three-day
Open Space training session that was so much more. It was a beautiful way
to experience and deepen our practice of Open Space.

In January, we are invited again to engage and share. It will be a two-day
virtual gathering using QiqoChat, not quite the same as face-to-face but
still extra special in the togetherness of connecting and reconnecting on
this timeless theme of:

“Opening Space for Peace and High Performance”
with the beautiful tagline
“Connecting the Generations”

Please join and a heartfelt thank you to OSI US and the host team for
continuing this long tradition.

Thanks for the reminder of the event Suzanne. Seems like a good way to give a nod to Harrison as we enter 2025. Not to mention connect with Open Space friends old and new. I’ve just registered. :-)

Beautifully said, Suzanne! Thank you. I look forward to a
multi-generational connecting.

I support a spotlight for younger practitioners and researchers and
innovators.

OST will turn 40 in July 2025. With many new/old stories being ripe to
emerge more widely, may our year in Open Space bring what is needed for
wholeness, health, and harmony. (HHO's definition of peace.)

Warmly,
Jeff

Hello OSList!

I find myself struggling to get up off my seat in the metaphorical
circle, step to the center, and make this invitation. There's a lot at
stake. But I'm pretty much out of time.

https://osius.org/peace-high-performance-2025

As Harrison Owen helped me see - we're already always in Open Space. The
trick is awakening to that. Will we keep the work alive? Those of us
that knew Harrison and saw how his work changed their lives? (And not
just Harrison, but many who worked with less of the lime light.)

Harrison Owen "discovered" or designed the OST format specifically to
help awaken our souls to this truth. It's all right here, ready for us
to take responsibility for what we love.

I'm sad that Harrison (and others I love) have gone on beyond these
dimensions in the past couple years. For the first time, Harrison won't
be joining our weekend Open Space in person like he did for decades. And
I'm grateful to honor all the work by "Opening Space for Peace and High
Performance" on Friday and Saturday. The title is a somewhat complicated
one. It was designed to project the wisdom of Harrison Owen's two books

  • The Practice of Peace and Wave Rider.

What I say next may or may not make sense. I just speak for myself, not
the OSI-US. I sensed seismic shifts at WOSonOS in Istanbul. Witnessing
the passing of the baton of WOSonOS from the bridge between Europe and
Asia over to Africa was a powerful sign. I've been hearing for over
fifteen years the question of when WOSonOS would be in Africa, the
continent which inspired OST, and I watched the invitation finally happen.

It seems likely based on the global crisis we're in that OST is
"crossing the chasm" from Early Adopter to Early Majority. And like
this email - at the LAST RESPONSIBLE MOMENT!!!

Danger AND Opportunity

Necessity is the MOTHER OF INVENTION

I hope those who care might register and come to "Connecting
Generations: Opening Space for Peace and High Performance". Maybe it's
too easy. No need to pay. Just click on some buttons and show up on
Friday and/or Saturday.

https://osius.org/peace-high-performance-2025

But I hope you click and come. I know whoever comes is the right people.
I hope you choose to be the right people.

    With love & light,
    Harold

P.S. Thank you Suzanne for keeping the torch burning for so many years.
Thank you for signing up and for bringing your light and love to
Istanbul and now online to Peace & High Performance. May it one day
return to in person at International House!

As Harrison Owen helped me see - we're already always in Open Space. The trick is awakening to that. Will we keep the work alive? Those of us that knew Harrison and saw how his work changed their lives? (And not just Harrison, but many who worked with less of the lime light.)

Harrison Owen "discovered" or designed the OST format specifically to help awaken our souls to this truth. It's all right here, ready for us to take responsibility for what we love.

I'm sad that Harrison (and others I love) have gone on beyond these dimensions in the past couple years. For the first time, Harrison won't be joining our weekend Open Space in person like he did for decades. And I'm grateful to honor all the work by "Opening Space for Peace and High Performance" on Friday and Saturday. The title is a somewhat complicated one. It was designed to project the wisdom of Harrison Owen's two books - The Practice of Peace and Wave Rider.

What I say next may or may not make sense. I just speak for myself, not the OSI-US. I sensed seismic shifts at WOSonOS in Istanbul. Witnessing the passing of the baton of WOSonOS from the bridge between Europe and Asia over to Africa was a powerful sign. I've been hearing for over fifteen years the question of when WOSonOS would be in Africa, the continent which inspired OST, and I watched the invitation finally happen.

It seems likely based on the global crisis we're in that OST is "crossing the chasm" from Early Adopter to Early Majority. And like this email - at the LAST RESPONSIBLE MOMENT!!!

Danger AND Opportunity

Necessity is the MOTHER OF INVENTION

I hope those who care might register and come to "Connecting Generations: Opening Space for Peace and High Performance". Maybe it's too easy. No need to pay. Just click on some buttons and show up on Friday and/or Saturday.

But I hope you click and come. I know whoever comes is the right people. I hope you choose to be the right people.

P.S. Thank you Suzanne for keeping the torch burning for so many years. Thank you for signing up and for bringing your light and love to Istanbul and now online to Peace & High Performance. May it one day return to in person at International House!

Dear Harold,

Thank you for the invitation! I wish OST can help generations to be
connected.

I will definitely drop by the "Peace and High Performance 2025". Thanks
also for mentioning WOSonOS 2024 Istanbul. I was also happy to keep the
Baton and deliver it to Kenya passing from Asia.

We have already collaborated with Suzanne Daigle 🙏to spread the invitation
to the participants in WOSonOS 2024 Istanbul.

We watched several WOSonOS videos on YouTube at home a few days ago. I was
once again grateful for all the efforts and enthusiasm invested in this
technique of OST all over the world🥰.

I hope that "the Baton" keeps traveling and finds its way.🍀👋

Harold and all,
It’s what I love most about Open Space, how we can each be fully ourselves
at every age and stage of life. Letting the words and actions flow, knowing
that whenever it happens is always the right time.
One can never guess how meaningful those words will be when they appear as
they did now in Harold’s invitation.
I love how we can all complement each other with no one ever carrying the
full load. Doing as little or as much as we feel moved to do.
Yes Istanbul was seismic as I’m guessing this virtual Open Space gathering
will also be. In its own way.
For clarification, are we to expect the QiqoChat link soon or was it
already sent and I missed it?
Looking forward to tomorrow,
Love always,
Suzanne

step to the center, and make this invitation. There's a lot at stake. But
I'm pretty much out of time.

As Harrison Owen helped me see - we're already always in Open Space. The
trick is awakening to that. Will we keep the work alive? Those of us that
knew Harrison and saw how his work changed their lives? (And not just
Harrison, but many who worked with less of the lime light.)

Harrison Owen "discovered" or designed the OST format specifically to help
awaken our souls to this truth. It's all right here, ready for us to take
responsibility for what we love.

I'm sad that Harrison (and others I love) have gone on beyond these
dimensions in the past couple years. For the first time, Harrison won't be
joining our weekend Open Space in person like he did for decades. And I'm
grateful to honor all the work by "Opening Space for Peace and High
Performance" on Friday and Saturday. The title is a somewhat complicated
one. It was designed to project the wisdom of Harrison Owen's two books -
The Practice of Peace and Wave Rider.

What I say next may or may not make sense. I just speak for myself, not
the OSI-US. I sensed seismic shifts at WOSonOS in Istanbul. Witnessing the
passing of the baton of WOSonOS from the bridge between Europe and Asia
over to Africa was a powerful sign. I've been hearing for over fifteen
years the question of when WOSonOS would be in Africa, the continent which
inspired OST, and I watched the invitation finally happen.

It seems likely based on the global crisis we're in that OST is "crossing
the chasm
" from Early Adopter to Early Majority. And like this email -
at the LAST RESPONSIBLE MOMENT!!!

Danger AND Opportunity

Necessity is the MOTHER OF INVENTION

I hope those who care might register and come to "Connecting Generations:
Opening Space for Peace and High Performance". Maybe it's too easy. No need
to pay. Just click on some buttons and show up on Friday and/or Saturday.

But I hope you click and come. I know whoever comes is the right people. I
hope you choose to be the right people.

 With love & light,

P.S. Thank you Suzanne for keeping the torch burning for so many years.
Thank you for signing up and for bringing your light and love to Istanbul
and now online to Peace & High Performance. May it one day return to in
person at International House!

Dear Harold, thanks again for the invitation.

I could participate bumblebeeing yesterday and even for short period this
has been a "seismic" for myself as Suzanne had predicted.

I was not there for the closing session. I want to share my thoughts now,
here, as these have occurred to me as I woke up this morning.

I have participated in a session invited by Doug (Talking to Strangers).
The way he hosted the session: respectful, careful and mindful (with
attention) to each participant, well grounded with the issue of his
invitation. The honesty, richness and the depth of all the thoughts and
ideas shared by all participants. To see that this can be possible online.

Another session was about (Connecting Generations hosted by Harold). I was
there only for a few minutes (maybe 2 minutes), yet I felt heard, I could
learn and maybe contribute.

This attitude is different from the culture and system we (maybe I) grew up
and live in. The education that makes us feel we never know enough to exist
and the competition/capitalism makes us feel we never have enough to exist.

We (or I) erroneously think that we (I) need more to be and/or to have to
have a space in life.

I was telling Mia and Michael once (colleagues from Berlin Open Space
Coopératif) I guess my keen interest in OST is not about others,
this is about me, my need to have a little space to take a breath.

Looking forward to spending some time again in the space opened and kept
open with generosity, lots of experience, lots of work and history.

Have a great day,
Funda Oral

With love & light,

P.S. Thank you Suzanne for keeping the torch burning for so many years. Thank you for signing up and for bringing your light and love to Istanbul and now online to Peace & High Performance. May it one day return to in person at International House!

Thanks Harold, Suzanne, Rijon, Peggy and everyone. More in and out than I would have liked this weekend but so glad you are all out there and very much look forward to being in Open Space with you again. I could participate bumblebeeing yesterday and even for short period this has been a "seismic" for myself as Suzanne had predicted. I was not there for the closing session. I want to share my thoughts now, here, as these have occurred to me as I woke up this morning. I have participated in a session invited by Doug (Talking to Strangers). The way he hosted the session: respectful, careful and mindful (with attention) to each participant, well grounded with the issue of his invitation. The honesty, richness and the depth of all the thoughts and ideas shared by all participants. To see that this can be possible online. Another session was about (Connecting Generations hosted by Harold). I was there only for a few minutes (maybe 2 minutes), yet I felt heard, I could learn and maybe contribute. This attitude is different from the culture and system we (maybe I) grew up and live in. The education that makes us feel we never know enough to exist and the competition/capitalism makes us feel we never have enough to exist. We (or I) erroneously think that we (I) need more to be and/or to have to have a space in life. I was telling Mia and Michael once (colleagues from Berlin Open Space Coopératif) I guess my keen interest in OST is not about others, this is about me, my need to have a little space to take a breath. Looking forward to spending some time again in the space opened and kept open with generosity, lots of experience, lots of work and history. Have a great day, Funda Oral Le jeu. 16 janv. 2025 à 20:03, Suzanne Daigle via OSList <everyone@oslist.org<mailto:everyone@oslist.org>> a écrit : Harold and all, It’s what I love most about Open Space, how we can each be fully ourselves at every age and stage of life. Letting the words and actions flow, knowing that whenever it happens is always the right time. One can never guess how meaningful those words will be when they appear as they did now in Harold’s invitation. I love how we can all complement each other with no one ever carrying the full load. Doing as little or as much as we feel moved to do. Yes Istanbul was seismic as I’m guessing this virtual Open Space gathering will also be. In its own way. For clarification, are we to expect the QiqoChat link soon or was it already sent and I missed it? Looking forward to tomorrow, Love always, Suzanne Suzanne Daigle 203-722-2009 On Wed, Jan 15, 2025 at 7:14 PM Harold Shinsato via OSList <everyone@oslist.org<mailto:everyone@oslist.org>> wrote: Hello OSList! The trick is awakening to that. Will we keep the work alive? Those of us that knew Harrison and saw how his work changed their lives? (And not just Harrison, but many who worked with less of the lime light.) Harrison Owen "discovered" or designed the OST format specifically to help awaken our souls to this truth.
