Keepers of the Circle

Dear friends and colleagues who work with Open Space Technology,
"You are a keeper of the circle when you work with Open Space Technology,
if you choose to take the responsibility for this role. It is a role of
service and responsibility. Within the circle is life that seeks to be
nourished, a field of possibilities that wants to be acknowledged and
explored, an opportunity to experience magic.

The circle is more visible when in an in-person environment. When I work
online using some form of meeting technology, I have a secondary software
in use within which a circle is available for people to put their names as
they take their place in the circle.

Along with the sponsors of the OST meeting, whether for a conference or
within an organization, we take our places in the circle some time prior to
opening the doors for participants to join us. I sit across the circle from
my co-facilitator. I ask the members of the sponsor team to sit equidistant
to us and to each other, and to avoid sitting near each other when we sit
in the main circle. We all, together, work to be keepers of the circle. I
guide all of us to use our imaginations to send energy clockwise, forming a
circle of energy. This is where additional power of the circle lies that
can be  felt by the multi-dimensional aspects of humans. The five senses
are aware of the visible aspects of the circle, yet the five senses are a
portion of human intelligence.

Why do we as facilitators sit opposite each other. We are supporting each
other in maintaining our role as keepers of the circle. Why do we ask the
sponsor team members to sit equidistant from us and each other? They are
taking their leadership as keepers of the circle for all that will
transpire. We have found that the energy is unbalanced if they sit beside
one another, and if they sit beside each other they  tend to chat with each
other. If the sponsor team members are formal leaders in the organization,
this chatting with each other can cause some unnecessary discomfort and
even caution in the people wondering what their leaders are talking about."

Great addition dear Birgit!
I find it so important to have this balance in the circle, with the sponsor et cetera.
Also for me, the circle is a must in online meetings. It makes such a difference to use the circle and an object to clarify is speaking and who is listening.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom also in writing
Thomas
