HOW DO WE PROTECT AND STRENGTHEN DEMOCRACY IN EUROPE?
Democracy is being challenged in many ways – yet we also see people and communities finding new ways to make their voices heard, shape decisions, and build trust across differences.
On October 15, we invite you to a dialogue where citizens, practitioners, and thought leaders come together to explore this question together.
The meeting will be facilitated using Open Space Technology. This gives the best opportunities for an engaging, fruitful and democratic format!

Hi Funda
Here in Sweden several action teams are continuing the work from the three day annual national open space for democracy which happened 17 to 19th October. A regional open space for democracy was facilitated last week Nov 14-16, in Umeå up north in Sweden.
The Mini Open space for Democracy that happened online mid October was quite positive. We hope to arrange another one early next year. I'm meeting with my European partners before Christmas to do some more planning,
Several other interesting paths are possibly opening in different directions, and we'll see what will happen!
Welcome to share more questions and ideas if you like to. There can't be enough space opened!

Dear Thomas,
Thanks for taking time and sharing information.
As a recent immigrant living in Germany, i am not sure how much i can be
considered European but
European Union and a Democratic Europe was the hope of the youth including
myself about 35-40 years ago.
When I moved to Berlin just before covid, Berlin was like an ideal city
where there was at least an ethical
behaviour/rule to include everyone in the institutions and the city life.
Now we moved to Stuttgart and I am trying to discover the life here.
I will try to follow up this important work you have started and contribute
if I can.
I also liked very much the invitation to an OST meeting in Eindhoven that
takes place in December:
"How on Earth do we make Eindhoven the most inclusive city"
I hope we, OST practitioners, will keep on opening spaces everywhere for
meaningful conversations and connect
everyone around the world as if we were sitting together around one circle
as wished by Harrison Owen.

Harrison Owen would have been 90 years old today. I think he would have been grinning ear to ear to witness WOSonOS in Kenya. A return to its African roots. And a spark for an OST movement in Africa and beyond.
Open Space has been unleashed in the world and continues to spread even by people who have never heard of Open Space Technology. As an example, I was on a Zoom call the other day that had three preset breakout sessions planned. As the facilitator gave instructions, she encouraged people to “use their two feet” if they wanted to move to a different breakout room during the sessions. I just smiled.
Thanks to Harrison for the gift of designing a practice that liberates human spirit. And giving it away with one responsibility: to share what we learn.

So True, Peggy,
So many people around the world, particularly in the larger community of Agile software development practitioners, have experienced or organized OST events, and even more refer to Liberating Structures activities with its Open Space listing.
In all the places I travel, I hear people using various OST observation/principles, the law, be prepared to be surprised, passion + responsibility, and other quotes from the practice. Harrison had an amazing impact in so many ways.
Today especially is a day to honor him. And I find for myself, his work gave me guidance for life every day of the year.

Harrison Owen would have been 90 years old today. I think he would have been grinning ear to ear to witness WOSonOS in Kenya. A return to its African roots. And a spark for an OST movement in Africa and beyond.
Open Space has been unleashed in the world and continues to spread even by people who have never heard of Open Space Technology. As an example, I was on a Zoom call the other day that had three preset breakout sessions planned. As the facilitator gave instructions, she encouraged people to “use their two feet” if they wanted to move to a different breakout room during the sessions. I just smiled.
Thanks to Harrison for the gift of designing a practice that liberates human spirit. And giving it away with one responsibility: to share what we learn.
