Blessings for this new year friends and colleagues,

I work with the energies of the new moon and full moon throughout the year.
This evening I am opening space with a group of young people. For some time
I have been opening space for a group of teens at the full moon and new
moon times, online, to pay attention to and grow their personal power and
wisdom. It is one of the great joys of my life. I consider it some of the
most sacred work I have done in this life.

Have you ever wondered why "opening space" feels so powerful? Why does
simply creating the right conditions allow such transformative work to
emerge? I choose to share with you on this day of the full moon in Cancer,
a supermoon that has a specifically charged amplification of energy, one
way of looking and understanding.

With this particular full moon, the cosmos is offering us a beautiful
metaphor to understand Open Space Technology. I am also addressing my
preference to use 'guardianship of space or stewardship of space' rather
than 'holding space'.

In shamanic tradition, there are rare moments called "cosmic windows"—times
when celestial alignments create optimal conditions for transformation.
During this month's Full Moon, something extraordinary is happening: the
Moon reaches its closest point to Earth (a SuperMoon) while Earth itself is
at its closest point to the Sun.Two forces, at maximum proximity, creating
amplified energy. The veil between realms thinning. A portal opening.

When we facilitate Open Space Technology, we do something remarkably
similar. We work with the sponsor to create conditions—a window of
possibility—where people can access wisdom and connection that normally
remains hidden beneath the surface of everyday interaction.

We open space by removing constraints, establishing just enough structure
(the circle, the four principles, the one law), and trusting the process.

We serve as* guardians* by maintaining the container with quiet presence,
allowing the group's collective intelligence to emerge without interference.

Like a cosmic alignment, Open Space Technology requires both elements: the
opening (removing barriers) and the guardianship (maintaining energetic
integrity). Too much structure and the window closes. Too little and the
space collapses.

In that cosmic window, the Moon's closeness amplifies emotional and
intuitive energy while the Sun's proximity intensifies vitality and
conscious action. Both at peak strength simultaneously.

In Open Space Technology, we create similar conditions:

• Passion (the Sun)—people choosing what truly matters to them
• Responsibility (the Moon)—people taking ownership for what they love
• Maximum proximity—people gathering in the same space, at the same
  time, with aligned intention

The result? Transformation that seems almost magical—yet is simply the
natural outcome of optimal conditions.

Shamans don't create the cosmic window—they recognize it and help others
access its power. Similarly, we don't create the group's wisdom. We
recognize the conditions for its emergence and serve as guardians of that
threshold.

Our role is to:

• Recognize the moment when an Open Space Technology meeting is
  valuable
• Open the portal through invitation and trust
• Guard the threshold with steady, grounded presence
• Step back and allow the work to happen

When I open space, I consider: I have the privilege of creating a portal. I
recognize that I am, through my facilitation of Open Space Technology, thinning
the barrier between what is and what wants to emerge. I am aligning
forces—human passion and collective responsibility—at their point of
maximum power.

This  evening in opening the space for the teens who will join me, I
understand how sacred a responsibility I have. On Monday, when I work
together with Rachel Bolton and a small group of people opening space for
learning how to show up with a grounded presence in our Holistic Leadership
Development workshop

the sacred responsibility we have. It is on purpose that this workshop is
launched with the energy of this cosmic window. I also like that the
workshop is online allowing participation from different parts of the
planet.

I love my work and Open Space Technology is profoundly important to me. This
isn't just meeting facilitation. It's cosmic work in human scale.The
universe has been doing this forever. We're following its lead.
